Educational Sessions
Energy Master Plan: Find Value for your Organization
Presenter: Steve Kolb, Towson University
Does your campus map out their energy supply for the future? Do you purchase energy years in advance? In this session, we will discuss essential elements of developing a comprehensive energy master plan (EMP) and why your institution should have one. Towson University is one of the top 10 institutions in the nation for energy savings. Learn steps the Towson Energy Management Department used to develop and implement their EMP, discuss case studies, and learn how TU achieved it’s Better Buildings Challenge goal three years early!
Grounds Maintenance: Upkeep of Baseball and Softball Infields; Synthetic Field Maintenance; and Round-Up
Patrick Coakley form DuraEdge Products will be presenting on baseball and softball infield maintenance. The presentation will cover basic knowledge of what infield mix is, a working knowledge of what topdressing and conditioner are and how these tools can be used to set the standard higher for safety and playability. Attendees will be shown how to think differently about water and not to fear rain.
Brian Haga owner of Scientific Plant in Baltimore, MD will be presenting on synthetic field maintenance. The presentation will cover how often should you clean your synthetic fields; snow removal; Gmax testing; proper field maintenance training for staff; and the relationship between facilities, athletics and the campus.
Eric Snelsire for Bayer Environmental Science will be presenting on Round-Up. This presentation is designed to be more of an open discussion to help institutions understand the EPA ruling in regards to Round Up use on campus and how to communicate to the campus that it is being safely used.
This session will be moderated by Scott Orndorff from Landscape Supply Inc.
Make Your Restrooms Great Again
Presenters: Ryan Gladhill, Miracle Method
Revitalize the existing tile, showers, and floors in your facility bathrooms and locker rooms. Visual impacts on parents, students, and donors of worn, dated and dirty tile, showers and floors are a major concern for personnel when recruiting and retaining students. Surface refinishing is the innovative alternative for removal and replacement of existing bathroom fixtures, countertops, and floors and creates and maintains a welcoming environment throughout your facility.
Learn how to overcome the time and cost challenges of updating college facilities and residence halls during winter and summer breaks. Refinished surfaces help reduce maintenance costs because they are easier to clean and sealed grout prevents the growth of mold and mildew. A Silver Ion Antimicrobial clear coat option can be added to mitigate microbial growth on the refinished surface. Surface refinishing is used to update outdated colors, repair chips and cracks, seal moldy tile grout lines, and fix leaking shower pans without demolition and reinstallation.
TOUR: There will be a tour available following lunch. More to come on this!
