Interested in becoming a Board member. Here’s how!!
Each year, as part of our Fall Education Program, we elect new members to our board. The Chapter holds elections for the following positions on the Board: First Term Director (two positions), President Elect and either Treasurer (even numbered years) or Secretary (odd numbered years).
If you are interested in being considered, please provide a brief candidate statement (approx. 150 words in length) which should include where you work, what you do, and anything else you believe may be of interest to the membership who will be voting.
Email your statements to Sheri Vucci at vuccish@si.edu. All nominations need to be received by October 15th, in order to be placed in advance on the ballot. However, nominations will be accepted on the floor at the time of the election. We accept both self-nominations and nominations from others. If you choose to nominate another individual, please ensure they are interested in running and that they are willing to accept the roles and responsibilities as noted below.
If you have any questions, please contact Sheri Vucci (vuccish@si.edu).
Roles and Responsibilities of MD/DC APPA First Term Directors
The duties of a First Term Director, as stated in our bylaws, are:
- Shall perform duties as assigned by the President
- Shall tally votes at the annual election
Successful candidates should be prepared to:
- Make a minimum commitment to serve three years on the Board.
- Once elected, the incumbent will serve a term of one year as First Term Director and then progress to Second and Third Term Directorships.
- Board Members, as stated in our bylaws, should attend most if not all Board and Chapter meetings. A member in good standing shall be defined as having attended four of the scheduled Board and Chapter meetings during each term of office. Members should also expect to participate in monthly conference calls.
- Board Members should have the support from their college/university for the time, travel and funding to support these commitments. Primary expenses include registration for two, one-day educational programs (presently $40), and registration for the two-day annual meeting (one night of lodging presently covered by the Chapter, one night borne by the member). Members are encouraged to attend the ERAPPA Annual meeting at their institution’s expense.
- Advocate for MD/DC APPA, ERAPPA and APPA on matters of interest; including the promotion and recruitment of new members.
